sea to sky
Today was one of those days I wish I could relive more than once.
The sun barged through the shutters and flooded every corner of the room, bringing along with it the brightness of morning. My eyelids, usually heavy and uncooperative, welcomed in the sunlight as I surrendered myself to the promise of a new day.
The sky went on forever — blue and cloudless — stretching far beyond the mountain peaks that surrounded us as we ascended in the gondola. Today was an anomaly; and if perfection can be defined by the experiences of a single day, today would be it.
We glided down the runs in t-shirts and hoodies, energized by the sun soaked snow and the way we smoothed it effortlessly as if it were butter. Every corner greeted us with a panoramic view, ready to stop our hearts mid beat as we soared around each curve. All the while, never being able to pry our eyes from the beautiful backdrop that lay in front of us.
What is this life.
You could not peel the smile off my face if you tried. I sat on the chair lift being lulled into a state of euphoria, and all I could manage to mutter was “wow.”
Wow.
There are so many moments that take my breath away. And there are so many moments that refuse to return it as I stand in complete awe of this world around me. An intricate and tumultuous masterpiece fastened in a rhythm of breaking and rebuilding itself; this steadfast continuity alone is enough to inflict an admiration deep within a person.
We wove our way along the highway as the daylight began to fade away. From sea to sky, my visual sensors were firing on all cylinders. The sun bid it’s farewell slowly and gracefully; reluctantly parting with the wonder-filled day it had so routinely brought to life.
I stood on the dock that extended into the water and I watched the sun’s colours sear the sky. As if someone or something had taken its long talon and ripped a thin line across the horizon, allowing the most brilliant oranges and pinks to stream out.
The mountains posed dark and courageous, encircling me. The water whispered lullabies, rippling ever so slightly as the air breathed it’s response. And once again all I could manage to mutter was “wow.”
Wow.
What a wonderful life.
